EYC = Episcopal Young Disciples
Young Disciples (YD) is a ministry of St. Luke’s youth in grades
6-12. The mission of YD is:
-
to learn about God and how God acts in our lives,
-
to pray and worship together,
-
to support one another as Christ teaches, and
-
to serve others as an expression of our love for God and one
another.

St. Luke’s recognizes that our young, by virtue of their baptism, are
powerful ministers of the Gospel and full members of the faith
community. Together, we explore the cost and promise of being
Christians. We seek to be mature in our relationships and in our faith.
And, we strive to fulfill our individual ministries for the sake of
Jesus Christ.
Young Disciples
gather each Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The programs vary
from worship, study, fun and service. Service projects are usually
outside the church such as Eldercare, Concern and Agape Mission. An
evening meal is almost always a part of the Wednesday plan and adults
are asked to be Wednesday Chefs for our youth by cooking a simple meal
for the youth. |
If we aren’t involved in a service project or a Christian education
night, we participate in activities that build up our community, like
games, going to see a movie together, laser tag, or bowling.
‘Banner’ events happen throughout the year, such as a Mystery Dinner,
and Game Show Night.. Weekend events are sometimes scheduled consisting
of river float trips, all night lock-ins, college weekend, and diocesan
conferences.
YD has four permanent adult sponsors. In addition, all adult members
of St. Luke’s are encouraged to participate in the mentoring of our
youth, whether they have children in YD or not. Wednesday Chefs, Project
Leaders (how to projects), and Chaperoning are ways to show our youth
they matter, they are important and what adult Christians are all about. |
