Children's Ministries

Children are important to the community of faith at St. Luke’s. We take seriously the Sacrament of Baptism and pledge to nurture our children in the Christian faith toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Children’s Ministries are designed to help children know that they are loved by God and belong to a parish family that loves and supports them.

Children’s Homily – The Clergy
Following the reading of the Gospel and before the sermon, children are invited by the priest or deacon to come forward for the Children’s Homily. This takes various forms, but most often the priest or deacon sits on the chancel floor with the children to talk with them. The adults also enjoy this time, but the homily is for the children. The message is on their level and the dynamic is love and “belonging.”

Children’s Chapel – Megan Burnett, Children’s Ministries
Following the Children’s Homily, the children go to the Rodgers Hall which is directly behind the Narthex. Here the children experience and respond to a specially tailored proclamation of God’s Word on their level. During the Peace, the children return to the church as we continue with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Children’s Chapel is for children four years old through the fifth grade. Children are always welcome to spend the entire time with their parents in the worship service if that is their choice.

Children’s Church School – Megan Burnett, Children’s Ministries
Classes for pre-school to fifth grade are based on a biblically oriented, hands-on approach that helps children explore the scripture and their faith in a meaningful way. The studies are very interactive and experiential and utilize our Anglican tradition. Teachers are trained and guided in this important task by staff and a wealth of resources.

The Nursery – Megan Burnett, Children’s Ministries
A nursery is provided for the 10:30 Eucharist, Church School and other activities of the parish. The nursery is also available at the 8:00 Eucharist by request to the parish office. The nursery is centrally located in the middle of our facilities on the first floor between the parish office and Metcalf Hall. Both paid and volunteer help are utilized in caring for the children. We want children and families to know that even the youngest among us are important. The environment is clean, bright, happy and loving. Everyone who works with our children participate in a seminar on “Safe-guarding Our Children.”
